I would categorize this with point and click games. You can do everything just by clicking, although, I would not suggest that. Every action has a key binding except for choosing targets for your weapons. So, even though I would say this is a point and click game, there is a lot more to it than that.
The original game play setting make you choose a target for your weapons every time it fires, which is rather annoying. That is the only issue I have with the game play. If you could change that, I would love it even more.
Pretty much the same story line as Star Wars: A New Hope... Not even kidding. You find out that you have the plans for the enemy's 'ultimate space ship', which shows it's greatest weakness. Kind of a rip off if you ask me, but you don't find out that is the plot in the game until you reach the last stage, which was a smart move in my eyes. Otherwise, you would have people saying 'FTL is just a New Hope rip off!', which is completely true.
